Auer Gives UCF Consecutive C-USA Baseball Hitter Of The Week Honorees

March 19, 2007

Orlando, Fla. (www.ucfathletics.com) - Junior Tyson Auer (Longwood, Fla./Lake Mary) earned Conference USA Hitter of the Week honors, making him the second straight UCF baseball player to earn the league's weekly honor.

Sophomore first baseman Kiko Vazquez (Sebring, Fla./Sebring) earned the honor the previous week as the Knights have reeled off wins in eight of their last nine games.

Auer hit .500 (8-for-16) to help UCF go 3-1 last week, including a series win over Rutgers. The Golden Knights' leadoff man cranked out three hits against Army and also scored three times in the 12-4 victory. The Knights' centerfielder pounded out three more hits in game one vs. Rutgers, and went on to have at least one hit and one RBI in each game last week.

He also stretched his C-USA lead in stolen bases by swiping three to give him 14 on the year. In the four games, Auer had 10 total bases, a .625 slugging percentage, two sacrifice flies and two doubles, all as the leadoff hitter.

The Knights begin their 24-game Conference USA schedule this weekend with a home series against Houston. Game one is slated for a 6:30 p.m. start on Friday night at Jay Bergman Field.
