Orlando, Fla. (www.ucfathletics.com) - Allison Kime (Brandon, Fla./Hillsborough CC) pitched her second one-hitter of the weekend as the UCF softball team downed Southern Miss 5-0 at the UCF Softball Complex on Sunday. The junior hurler threw her sixth shutout and 14th complete game of the season, striking out 11 Southern Miss batters in the process. With the win, the Golden Knights move to 20-13 on the year and 2-4 in Conference USA.

The Black and Gold tacked on the game's first run with an RBI single from Kime in the bottom of the first inning. Cici Alvarez (Pembroke Pines, Fla./McArthur) reached earlier on a Southern Miss error, advancing to second on a groundout. The third baseman used her speed on the bases to come around and score on Kime's single to shallow right field making the score 1-0.

In the fourth, UCF put on its hitting shoes as Breanne Javier (Castaic, Calif.), Ashleigh Cole (Pace, Fla./Pace), and Cat Snapp (Niceville, Fla./Niceville) registered three of the Golden Knights' eight hits in the inning. The Black and Gold added another run to go up 2-0 when Cole plated pinch-runner Morgan Bullard (Columbia, S.C.) on an RBI single down the right field line. UCF tried to score one more, but the play at the plate forced Hillary Barrow (Miami, Fla./Felix Varela) out and put two outs on the board. With a full count, two outs and bases loaded Kacie Feaster (Jacksonville, Fla./Trinity Christian) ripped a shot through the left side, but the Golden Eagles' shortstop made a diving play and threw Snapp out at second base to end the inning.

The action picked up in the sixth inning when UCF rattled off two straight hits before Ashley Van Ryn (Atlanta, Ga.) scored on an errant throw from the Southern Miss catcher. The Golden Knights increased their lead to 3-0. Snapp's sacrifice fly to center field scored Barrow from third. The last run crossed the plate when Feaster scored Cole on a single through the left side of the infield extending UCF's lead, 5-0.

Javier was the offensive MVP of the game as she was a perfect 3-for-3 against Golden Eagle starter Samantha Davis. The Black and Gold also received stellar performances from Cole, Feaster, Kime and Snapp who all had one hit and a RBI in the contest.

UCF hits the field again on March 21 when it hosts Dartmouth in an afternoon doubleheader at the UCF Softball Complex. The first game is scheduled to get underway at 3 p.m. with the night-cap to follow.
