BOCA RATON, Fla. (www.ucfathletics.com) - The UCF men's tennis team recorded a 4-3 win over host Florida Atlantic at Patch Reef Park on Saturday afternoon. The Golden Knights, ranked 65th nationally, improved to 10-4 on the year.
After taking the doubles point, UCF claimed three singles wins to post the victory over the Owls (7-9). Freshman Johan Beigart (Vaxjo, Sweden) clinched the match for UCF at No. 3, taking a 7-5, 6-4 win against Daniel Vardag.
At the No. 6 position, UCF sophomore Brock Sakey (Gulf Breeze, Fla./Gulf Breeze) eased past Lawrence Harradine, 6-3, 6-3. The Golden Knights were also victorious at No. 2, where sophomore Tarek Ben Soltane (Tunis, Tunisia) defeated Karol Szmurlo (6-2, 6-4).
UCF has won seven of its last eight matches.
The Golden Knights opened the tilt by winning two of three doubles matches. Sakey and sophomore Norman Alcantara (Mexico City, Mexico) registered an 8-3 decision at No. 1 against Smith and Szmurlo. Along with junior Sinan Sudas (Adana, Turkey), Beigart defeated Lawrence Harradine and Olivier Sajous, 8-6, at the No. 2 spot.
With the win, UCF improved to 20-6 all-time against Florida Atlantic.
UCF's next contest is set for Tuesday at 2 p.m. against No. 48 Denver at the UCF Tennis Complex.
