UCF Women's Tennis Completes Trip with 6-1 Win Over Cal State Fullerton

Fullerton, Calif. (www.ucfathletics.com) - By using solid performances from across its lineup, the UCF women's tennis team earned a 6-1 victory at Cal State Fullerton Tuesday. The Golden Knights were impressive in doubles play to earn the first point and were able to hang on to the lead to improve their record to 6-5 on the season. The Titans dropped to 1-14 with the loss.

For the seventh-straight time, UCF went ahead 1-0 by sweeping the doubles matches over Cal State Fullerton. Junior Anna Yakimchenkova teamed up with sophomore Elvira Serrot at No. 1 doubles and posted an 8-6 win over Gina Le and Mai-Ly Tran. The duo moved their record in dual-match play to 7-4 thanks to the triumph. Meanwhile, senior Megan Hunter and sophomore Kenza Belbacha defeated Shelly Injejikian and Breanna Stowell at No. 2, 8-2. To complete the sweep, senior Becky Gordon and junior Jennifer Carati edged Jerusha Cruz and Katrina Domela and No. 3, 8-5.

To kick-off singles action, Carati, who was playing in her first match at No. 6 this season, gave up only one game in a 6-1, 6-0 victory against Stowell to boost the UCF lead to 2-0. Hunter pushed it to 3-0 on a 6-3, 6-0 win over Injejikian at No. 4. Gordon sealed the overall team victory by getting past Cruz at No. 5, 6-3, 6-4.

UCF racked up two more points at Nos. 1 and 3 to bring the final score to 6-1. Serrot won her fifth-straight match at the No. 1 position, needing three sets in a 6-2, 1-6, 6-3 win vs. Le. And junior Anna Yakimchenkova found a way to get the win over Domela at No. 3 with a 6-4, 4-6, 1-0(11-9) victory.
