Women's Tennis Visits California for Two Weekday Matches

March 11, 2007

Orlando, Fla. (www.ucfathletics.com) - After wrapping up a four-match home swing, the UCF women's tennis team heads to the west coast for spring break and will take on No. 28 UC Irvine and Cal State Fullerton Monday and Tuesday, respectively. The meeting with the Anteaters gets underway at 4:30 p.m. ET, while the Black and Gold and the Titans take the courts at 5 p.m. ET.

The Golden Knights (5-4) are riding a five match-winning streak dating back to a 7-0 win at Florida Atlantic Feb. 24. In all, Kyla McNicol, Megan Hunter and Becky Gordon have each won their last five singles matches, while McNicol and partner Kenza Belbacha are 5-2 at the No. 2 double position.

UCF will have a huge test against UC Irvine Monday. The Anteaters have a 13-2 overall record, and have a seven-match winning streak on the line vs. the Golden Knights. Sophomore Becky Bernhard currently ranks No. 95 in the country, as she was a first-team All-Big West selection as a freshman. In the two programs' histories, UC Irvine claims a 2-0 record over UCF.

Cal State Fullerton will be searching for its first win of the year, as the Titans own an 0-13 record for 2007. In their last match, they fell to UC Davis, 4-3, March 2. Cal State Fullerton has yet to play a match outside of California, and the only team it has met that was not from the Golden State was Hawaii Jan. 22. Tuesday marks the first meeting ever between the Knights and the Titans.
