Orlando, Fla. (www.ucfathletics.com) - In a highly-contested match-up Thursday at the UCF Tennis Complex, the UCF women's tennis team earned an impressive 5-2 victory over Eastern Michigan. With their second-straight win, the Golden Knights improved to 2-4 on the season, while the Eagles dropped to 6-5.

To open the afternoon, the doubles point proved to be a difficult task for each team to get its hands on. Although UCF fell at the No. 3 match, the Knights earned wins at the top two positions to gain a 1-0 overall lead. Junior Anna Yakimchenkova and sophomore Elvira Serrot teamed up for an 8-5 triumph over Vanessa Frankowski and Yana Parfenyuk at the No. 1 spot. And at No. 2, sophomore Kenza Belbacha and junior Kyla McNicol was able to defeat Catherina Bestehorn and Aditi Krishnan, 8-2.

The Golden Knights added four points in singles play to lock up the win. Belbacha cruised at No. 2, topping Krishnan, 6-0, 6-4, and McNicol did the same by defeating Bestehorn, 6-1, 6-1, at No. 4. Senior Megan Hunter came through in the No. 5 position, needing three sets to knock off Emma Czarnecki, 6-3, 1-6, 6-1. Classmate Becky Gordon capped off the win at No. 6, using a third-set super-tiebreaker in a 6-4, 6-7(0), 1-0(10-8) victory against Laura Fernandez.

In all, Gordon stretched her singles record to 11-5 for the 2006-07 campaign. McNicol has shined as well, and will carry a 5-2 mark into the weekend.

UCF does not have a lot of time to rest, as the Knights get right back to work Friday with a 1 p.m. showdown vs. Florida A&M. For the latest news and information on the Golden Knights, tickets or apparel log on to www.ucfathletics.com - the official site for UCF athletics.
