ORLANDO, Fla. (www.ucfathletics.com) - The UCF men's tennis team rolled to a 6-1 victory over visiting Georgia Southern on Friday afternoon at the UCF Tennis Complex. The Golden Knights, who entered the ITA Fila Collegiate Tennis Rankings at No. 69 earlier in the week, improved to 3-2 on the year.
UCF claimed five of six singles contests and all three doubles tilts. Georgia Southern dropped to 1-3 with the loss.
Sophomores Tarek Ben Soltane (Tunis, Tunisia) and Jimmy Roesch (Melbourne, Fla./Eau Gallie) clinched the doubles point for the hosts, topping Matthew Sands and Neil Shine, 8-5, at No. 3. At No. 2, sophomores Norman Alcantara (Mexico City, Mexico) and Brock Sakey (Gulf Breeze, Fla./Gulf Breeze) claimed an 8-4 win over Gregory Bekkers and Joris De Weerdt. Against the Eagles' Borja Malet and Emmauel Nkoueleue at No. 1, senior Sinan Sudas (Adana, Turkey) and freshman Johan Beigart (Vaxjo, Sweden) held on for an 8-7 (7-5) win.
A large crowd enjoyed the match as UCF played the first contest of eight-straight at home.
Roesch clinched the victory with a 6-2, 6-0 triumph over Shine at the No. 6 singles spot. Sudas rolled to a 6-2, 6-2 win over Nkoueleue at No. 1. Facing Sands, Sakey came away with a 6-1, 6-1 decision at No. 3.
Beigart improved to 5-0 in singles action this season after topping Bekkers at No. 4 (6-2, 6-0). Alcantara topped Malet, 6-2, 0-6, 6-2 at No. 5.
The Golden Knights return to the courts on Sunday, hosting 11th-ranked Miami at 11 a.m.
