Orlando, Fla. (www.ucfathletics.com) - The UCF men's golf team will open the 2007 spring season at the Sun Trust Gator Invitational in Gainesville, Fla., this weekend. The event will be hosted by the University of Florida at the 6,701-yard, par-70, University Golf Course.
The Golden Knights' line up will feature junior Giwon Suh (Orlando, Fla./Olympia), a trio of sophomores and freshman David Palm (Jacksonville, Fla./Bartram Trail). Making up the UCF triumvirate of sophomores are Preston Brown (Ponte Vedra Beach, Fla./Nease), Kyle Davis (Kennett Square, Pa.) and Greg Forest (Palm City, Fla./Martin County). UCF tied for eighth in this event last year.
"The guys are ready to go up there and compete against some of the top teams in the nation," head coach Nick Clinard said. "We have been practicing well and the weather has been great. Now, it is time to go see how we do against a strong field."
The 14-team field is headlined by the host and top-ranked Gators and features four other teams ranked in the latest Golf Week Top 25 (Feb. 4). UCF will also go up against a pair of Conference USA foes as No. 17 Tulsa and UAB will also be competing in Gainesville.
The Golden Knights participated in three events during the fall season, with their highest finish coming with a third-place finish at the Wolf Run Invitational. Davis and Forest each turned in the top individual finishes, tying for seventh at the Wolf Run Invitational and Topy Cup, respectively.
