IRVING, Texas (www.ucfathletics.com) - After starting off the season 4-0 in singles competition, Johan Beigart earned Conference USA Male Tennis Athlete of the Week honors on Tuesday. Beigart is the first Golden Knight to win the award as a freshman and the second to earn the C-USA award in program history.
Beigart has won all four matches at the No. 4 spot. The Vaxjo, Sweden native recorded a victory against Eric Riley of 51st-ranked Penn, 6-1, 7-6(3) on Feb. 2. The freshman was the lone victor at Princeton when he defeated Charlie Brosens, 6-3, 4-6, 6-2. At 15th-ranked Florida, Beigart took a 4-6, 6-0, 6-0 win over Billy Mulligan.
With partner Sinan Sudas, the two have combined for a 3-1 record in doubles at the No. 1 spot. The pair prevailed at 51st-ranked Penn against Jason Pinsky and Eric Riley, 8-3. Beigart and Sudas also earned an 8-6 win at Princeton against Alex Krueger-Wyman and Sratha Saengsuwarn.
UCF returns to action on Friday at home against Georgia Southern at 2 p.m.
