PRINCETON, N.J. (www.ucfathletics.com) - The UCF men's tennis team dropped a 6-1 match to host Princeton at the Jadwin Gym courts on Sunday afternoon. The Golden Knights (2-2) were playing an Ivy League program for the second time in three days.
The Tigers (1-0) won five of six singles contests. UCF picked up a point at the No. 4 spot as freshman Johan Beigart (Vaxjo, Sweden) got past Charlie Brosens, 6-3, 4-6, 6-2. Senior Ener Gursoy (Adana, Turkey) nearly picked up a win at No. 3, but Princeton's Alex Krueger-Wyman held on for a 6-4, 6-7, (11-9) victory.
In doubles play, the hosts took two of the three tilts to claim the first point of the day. Beigart joined junior Sinan Sudas (Adana, Turkey) for an 8-6 victory at the No. 1 position over Krueger-Wyman and Sratha Saengsuwarn.
On Friday, UCF posted a 4-3 win at 51st-ranked Penn.
UCF's next eight matches are at home. The Golden Knights begin the stretch on Friday, Feb. 9 with a 2 p.m. contest against Georgia Southern at the UCF Tennis Complex.
