UCF Women's Tennis Starts a String of Home Games with Eastern Michigan

Orlando, Fla. (www.ucfathletics.com)- Coming off an impressive 7-0 victory over Florida Atlantic last Saturday, the Golden Knights will be back on their home court to face Eastern Michigan on Thursday at 1 p.m. UCF will then face Florida A&M on Friday at 1 p.m., and on Sunday, UNC Greensboro will be traveling to the UCF Tennis Complex to start play at 2 p.m.

Admission to all home matches at the UCF Tennis Complex is free.

With the first win of the 2007 season Feb. 24 against Florida Atlantic, UCF improved its record to 1-4. Becky Gordon moved to 10-5 on the season in singles play and Kyla McNicol improved her singles record to 4-2. At the No. 1 spot in doubles, Elvira Serrot and Anna Yakimchenkova enhanced their record to 7-7 on the season, including fall tournament play.

UCF has gone 2-5 overall with Eastern Michigan in past seasons. The most recent match against the two teams was held in 2006 and resulted in a 5-2 UCF victory. This year Eastern Michigan is 6-3 on the season with wins over Morehead State, Cincinnati, Dayton, Detroit, Stetson and Illinois State and losses to Michigan State, Wisconsin and Marshall. The Eagles have six returning players from the 2006 squad including Yana Parfenyuk, who led the team with a 15-6 singles record in 2005-06.

Florida A&M is 5-5 on the 2007 season with wins over Morgan State, Delaware State, Coppin State, Howard and Maryland Eastern Shore and losses to Hampton, No. 58 Florida State, No. 69 Auburn, Jacksonville and Georgia Southern. UCF has met with Florida A&M 11 times in the past and has an impressive 11-0 record against the Rattlers.

UNC Greensboro started off its 2007 season 3-2 with three 7-0 victories over North Carolina A&T, Winston-Salem State and UNC Asheville respectfully. Sunday's meeting with UCF will mark the first meeting between the two schools in women's tennis.
