Orlando, Fla. (www.ucfathletics.com) - UCF shortstop Amber Lamb (West Palm Beach, Fla./John I. Leonard) extended her hitting streak to 11 games with a sixth-inning double that also provided the only run of the game as UCF took a 1-0 decision from North Florida on Tuesday at the UCF Softball Complex. The Golden Knights improved to 11-7 on the season and took the season series from the visiting Lady Ospreys (6-7) 2-1.
Sophomore Lexi Gresham (Fresno, Calif./Clovis West) started in the circle for the Knights and allowed just one hit in 4.1 innings of work, while striking out seven Lady Ospreys. Freshman Ashleigh Cole (Pace, Fla./Pace) relieved Gresham in the fifth with one out after a trio of UCF errors loaded the bases with North Florida runners.
Cole (4-3) was able to work out of the jam and log 2.2 innings of scoreless relief to pick up the victory.
"It was good to see our top of the line-up with our three seniors step up and be able to produce that run when we needed it," Head coach Renee Luers-Gillispie. "We avoided giving up the big inning tonight and that was key because those have been hurting us."
Kacie Feaster (Jacksonville, Fla./Trinity Christian Academy) led off the seventh with a sharp single to center field and was moved over to second on a sacrifice hit by Cici Alvarez (Pembroke Pines, Fla./McArthur). Lamb followed with her third double of the season to drive in Feaster for the winning run.
UCF outhit the visitors 6-2 as Feaster, Lamb, Alvarez, Cole along with Breanne Javier (Castaic, Calif.) and Cat Snapp (Niceville, Fla./Niceville) each collected base knocks. Feaster and Cole have now hit safely in five-consecutive games.
The Knights return to their home field on Wednesday when the team entertains Stetson at 6 p.m. at the UCF Softball Complex.
