IRVING, Texas (www.ucfathletics.com) - No. 11 seeded UCF will take on No. 6 seed SMU in the first round of 2007 Conference USA Women's Basketball Championship in Tulsa, Okla., the league announced on Sunday. The two rivals tipoff at the University of Tulsa's Reynolds Center on Thursday, March 1 at 9:30 p.m. Eastern.
The Golden Knights (8-21, 3-13 C-USA) and Mustangs (17-11, 9-7 C-USA) only met once this season with SMU earning a 73-47 victory in Dallas, Texas. Senior guard Francine Houston (Bradenton, Fla./Southeast HS) scored a team-high 11 points for UCF, while freshman forward Brittany Gilliam and junior center Janielle Dodds each sank 17 points for SMU.
The Mustangs hold a 2-0 lead in the all-time series.
Should the Golden Knights defeat SMU, they will meet No. 3 East Carolina at 9:30 p.m. in Friday's quarterfinals. The C-USA Championship continues with the semifinals on Saturday and the championship game on Sunday at 5:30 p.m.
