Boca Raton, Fla. (www.ucfathletics.com) - Using impressive performances throughout its lineup, the UCF women's tennis team recorded a 7-0 sweep at Florida Atlantic Saturday afternoon. With their first win of 2007, the Knights improved to 1-4, while the Owls dropped to 1-3.

All three Golden Knights' doubles teams captured victories Saturday, enabling UCF to take a 1-0 overall lead. At No. 1, junior Anna Yakimchenkova (Palm Beach Gardens, Fla.) and sophomore Elvira Serrot (Madrid, Spain) won their second-straight match together, defeating Claudia Kecht and Elodie Wendling, 8-6. Junior Kyla McNicol (Winnipeg, Manitoba) and sophomore Kenza Belbacha (Casablanca, Morocco) delivered with an 8-4 win at No. 2 against Pia Terol and Katherine Bartnik. And at the No. 3 spot, senior Becky Gordon (Tampa, Fla.) and junior Jennifer Carati (Puerto Ordaz, Venezuela) edged Danielle Simone and Natalia Totevska, 8-6.

Three 6-4, 6-1 victories at Nos. 4, 5 and 6 singles quickly helped UCF seal the win over Florida Atlantic. Gordon got things going by defeating Simone at No. 6, then senior Megan Hunter (Poquoson, Va.) topped Totevska at No. 5. McNicol sealed the match by getting by Terol at No. 4.

The top half of the lineup proceeded to close out the sweep. Yakimchenkova recorded a 7-5, 6-3 win over Bartnik at No. 3. While at No. 2, Belbacha needed three sets in order to defeat Kecht, 6-2, 4-6, 6-1. And after winning a first-set tiebreaker at No. 1, Serrot earned a 7-6(4), 6-3 triumph over Wendling.

Now that the Knights have concluded their three-match road swing, they return to Orlando for a four-match homestand beginning Thursday. The Black and Gold will host Eastern Michigan in a 1 p.m. showdown at the UCF Tennis Complex.
