HOUSTON, Texas (www.ucfathletics.com) - Sophomore Sheree Carter (Tallahassee, Fla./Godby HS) and freshman Katorie Stinney (Rockledge HS) each captured the bronze medals in their respective events to lead the UCF women's track and field team in the first day of the 2007 Conference USA Indoor Championship and Yeoman Fieldhouse on Friday.
Carter kicked off the pentathlon competition with a personal-best time of 9.06 to capture third in the 60-meter hurdles then took third in the high jump with a season-best of 5-3.25. She finished the day by placing fourth in the 800m at 2:29.74. Carter collected a personal-best 3,486 points, an effort that ranks second all-time at UCF, and received all-conference honors.
Three other Golden Knights had personal-best performances in the pentathlon. Junior transfer Tia Harewood (Wyandach, N.Y./Half Hallow Hills East HS) posted 3,107 points, while sophomore Sade Nero (Miami, Fla./Miami Northwestern HS) had 2,934 and sophomore Natalie Braddock (Callahan, Fla./West Nassau HS) recorded 2,905 points.
Stinney also earned all-conference honors after taking third in the high jump with a personal best of 5-6.50 in the high jump. Meanwhile, junior Virginia Traynor (Miami, Fla./Westminster HS) recorded a personal-best of 50-3.25 to rank 11th in the weight throw, an effort that puts her second all-time at UCF.
On the track, freshman Jenny Clausen (Jackson, N.J./Jackson Memorial HS) finished the 5,000m at 17:26.67, besting her own freshman record by three seconds, as she took sixth in the event. Her classmate Feyisara Adaramola (Bronx, N.Y./Trevor Day School) qualified Saturday's 60m dash finals with a time of 7.63 in the preliminaries.
Results for the long jump, 200m dash and distance medley relay were not yet available. The 2007 C-USA Indoor Track and Field Championship continues on Saturday.
