Orlando, Fla. (www.ucfathletics.com) - After a tough loss to the University of North Florida Feb. 20, the UCF women's tennis team (0-4) will travel to Boca Raton, Fla., to take on the Florida Atlantic University Owls on Saturday. Play is scheduled to begin at 1 p.m.
UCF's Becky Gordon improved her singles record to 9-5 overall, with a win last Tuesday over North Florida's Robin Rogers. Jennifer Carati and Megan Hunter are holding strong in doubles action with a 5-1 record, including fall tournaments, with wins over Nova Southern, Florida Southern, Stetson, Rollins College and Florida A&M.
UCF has gone 18-8 against the Owls in the past. The last meeting of the two schools was held in 2005 resulting in a 4-3 victory for the Golden Knights.
Florida Atlantic has started off its season at 1-2 with a win over Arkansas State and losses to Lynn University and No. 8 Miami. The Owls have six returning players including senior Katherine Bartnik who finished the 2005-06 season with a 7-11 singles record.
UCF's next match, after meeting Florida Atlantic, will be a home contest against Eastern Michigan on Thursday, March 1. The Golden Knights first serve of the day is scheduled for 1 p.m.
