ORLANDO, Fla. (www.ucfathletics.com) - The UCF men's tennis team rolled past Memphis on Thursday, posting a 6-1 win over the Tigers at the UCF Tennis Complex. The contest was the Golden Knights' (5-3) first match at the UCF/Conference USA Shootout.

Memphis (2-4) won the doubles point to start the match, but UCF recovered, winning all six singles tilts.

Junior Sinan Sudas (Adana, Turkey) clinched the victory for the Golden Knights, defeating Jimmy Khougassian at No. 1 singles, 6-1, 3-6, 6-3. Sophomores Brock Sakey (Gulf Breeze, Fla./Gulf Breeze), Norman Alcantara (Mexico City, Mexico) and Jimmy Roesch (Melbourne, Fla./Eau Gallie) eased to wins at the No. 4, No. 5 and No. 6 positions, respectively.

UCF freshman Johan Beigart (Vaxjo, Sweden) topped Benny Fischer (6-4, 4-6, 7-5) at No. 3. At the No. 6 spot, the Golden Knights picked up a win when sophomore Tarek Ben Soltane (Tunis, Tunisia) rallied for a 4-6, 6-3, 7-6 (6) victory against Amrit Narasimhan.

The Tigers opened the contest, which was played under sunny skies, by posting wins at No. 1 and No. 3 doubles.

The Golden Knights are ranked 71st nationally.

UCF returns to the courts on Friday, facing 75th-ranked UAB at 1 p.m. The Blazers will be the third nationally-ranked opponent to play in Orlando this year. East Carolina and Memphis start the day with a 9 a.m. match. Admission to all contests is free.
