NEW YORK, N.Y. (www.ucfathletics.com) - Senior Karen Kozub (Alden, N.Y./Alden HS) celebrated her return to the Empire State by breaking the school record in the 1,000-meter event as the UCF women's track and field team competed in the first day of the New Balance Invitational on Friday.
Kozub ran the 1,000m race in 2:56.37 to finish seventh overall. Not be outdone by her teammate, freshman Jenny Clausen (Jackson, N.J./Jackson Memorial HS) took second in the 5,000m at 17:29.55, establishing a new freshman record that also ranks third all-time at UCF.
Sophomore Shantile Blackburn (Brooklyn, N.Y./Bishop Laughlin HS) posted a time of 2:17.84 in the 800m and classmate Dione Thomas (Jacksonville, Fla./Raines HS) recorded a season-best mark of 18-feet, 9.25 inches in the long jump for 10th place.
Also, freshman Feyisara Adaramola (Bronx, N.Y./Trevor Day School) qualified for Saturday's finals of the 60m dash with a time of 7.61 in her preliminary heat.
The New Balance Invitational continues on Saturday with the Golden Knights competing in the sprints, triple jump, distance and 4x400m relay events.
