ORLANDO, Fla. (www.ucfathletics.com) - The UCF men's tennis team posted a 5-2 victory on a windy Sunday morning against Utah at the UCF Tennis Complex. The Golden Knights improved to 4-3 on the season.
In doubles, sophomores Brock Sakey (Gulf Breeze, Fla./Gulf Breeze) and Norman Alcantara (Mexico City, Mexico) earned the first win for the Golden Knights at No. 2 over Amit Maharaj and Ryan Schlachter, 8-1. The pair is currently 6-1 on the season in doubles play.
Sophomores Tarek Ben Soltane (Tunis, Tunisia) and Jimmy Roesch (Melbourne, Fla./Eau Gallie) posted the second win at the No. 3 spot, 8-4, over Wes Hancock and Timmy Allin. The victory provided UCF with the doubles point.
In singles, UCF was victorious at four of the six contests. Ben Soltane won 6-1, 6-2 at No. 2 against Hancock to give the Golden Knights a 2-0 advantage. Roesch gave UCF its third point of the morning when he won 6-4, 6-3 against Allin at No. 6.
The fourth win, which clinched victory for the Golden Knights, came as freshman Johan Beigart (Vaxjo, Sweden) posted a win at No. 3 over Miron Mann, 2-6, 6-3, 6-3. The win was Beigart's first of the year at the No. 3 spot. Alcantara defeated Othman Ouariti, 6-4, 3-6, 1-0(7-5) at No. 5 with a forehand winner in the third set to give UCF the 5-2 win.
The No. 71 Golden Knights move to 3-1 at home this season and earn their second victory against a ranked opponent. Utah is ranked 70th nationally.
UCF returns to the court against Conference USA opponent Memphis on Thursday. First serve is slated for 2 p.m. at the UCF Tennis Complex.
