IRVING, Texas (www.ucfathletics.com) - After leading the UCF men's basketball team to a pair of victories, senior forward Josh Peppers (Memphis, Tenn./Whitehaven) earned Conference USA Player of the Week honors, the league office announced on Monday. Peppers shared the award with Rice's Morris Almond.
Peppers averaged 19 points as the Golden Knights (18-6, 7-3 C-USA) posted wins over East Carolina and Marshall. He shot 71.4 percent (15-of-21) from the floor and 60 percent (6-of-10) from 3-point range.
At East Carolina, Peppers scored a game-high 24 points on the strength of a 9-of-10 performance from the field. His .900 field-goal percentage was the best by a C-USA player this season and ties for fifth on the league's single-game register. In UCF's home victory over Marshall, Peppers totaled 14 points, five boards and a pair of blocks in 24 minutes of action. Peppers is the first UCF player to earn the conference's weekly accolade. The Golden Knights are in their second campaign in C-USA.
Peppers is averaging a team-high 14.3 points in conference play. He ranks ninth all-time at UCF with 1,256 points.
The Golden Knights, who have already eclipsed their victory total from a year ago, are currently tied with Houston and Rice for second in the C-USA standings. UCF returns to the hardwood on Wednesday, facing Tulane in New Orleans at 8 p.m. Eastern. The team's next home contest is set for Wednesday, Feb. 21 versus Southern Miss.
