Men's Tennis Drops Home Match Against No. 11 Miami

ORLANDO, Fla. (www.ucfathletics.com) - The UCF men's tennis team dropped a 6-1 decision on Sunday against No. 11 Miami at the UCF Tennis Complex. The match was the second of eight consecutive at home for the Golden Knights (3-3).

UCF was able to slide past the Hurricanes (4-1) at the No. 2 spot in doubles. Sophomores Brock Sakey (Gulf Breeze, Fla./Gulf Breeze) and Norman Alcantara (Mexico City, Mexico) won an 8-4 decision against Daniel Vallverdu and Vivek Subramanian. Sakey and Alcantara improved to 4-1 on the season at the No. 2 doubles spot.

Senior Ener Gursoy (Adana, Turkey) and sophomore Jimmy Roesch (Melbourne, Fla./Eau Gallie) teamed for the first time this season, but lost at the No. 3 spot to Hector Nieto and Barnabas Carrega, 8-6. Senior Sinan Sudas (Adana, Turkey) and freshman Johan Beigart (Vaxjo, Sweden) also fell at No. 1, 8-5, against Luigi D'Agord and Josh Cohen.

In singles, Miami won five of the six singles matches. The Golden Knights received their lone point from Sakey, who won 3-6, 6-3, (10-2) against Hector Nieto. Beigart, who was 4-0 at No. 4, dropped his first match of the season to Vivek Subramanian, 6-4, 6-4, at No. 4.

The Golden Knights return to the courts on Sunday, Feb. 18 at 10 a.m., against Utah at the UCF Tennis Complex.
