Orlando, Fla. (www.ucfathletics.com) - The UCF men's golf team sits in 13th place after two rounds of the Sun Trust Gator Invitational being played at the University Golf Course in Gainesville, Fla., this weekend. Each squad in the 14-team field played 36 holes on Saturday as the Golden Knights posted back-to-back rounds of 297 for a 594 (+34) total.
Wake Forest leads the event by one stroke over tournament host and No. 1 Florida. The Demon Deacons fired rounds of 280 and 288 to post a leading score of 568 (+8). The top four teams are only separated by four strokes entering the 18-hole final round on Sunday.
Florida junior Manuel Villegas holds a two-stroke lead in the individual standings after posting rounds of 67 and 68 for a five-under total of 135. The top Golden Knight performer was junior Giwon Suh (Orlando, Fla./Olympia), who opened the tournament with an even-par score of 70 before posting a 75 in his second 18 holes. Suh stands in a tie for 29th with a two-round total of 145.
Suh's 70 in the first round was the low round of the day for a Golden Knight. Freshman David Palm (Jacksonville, Fla./Bartram Trail) posted back-to-back rounds of 74 and is in a tie for 48th.
