ORLANDO, Fla. (www.ucfathletics.com) - The UCF women's basketball team returns home for three games beginning with Tulsa on Sunday, Feb. 4 at 1 p.m. With seven games remaining until the 2007 Conference USA Championship, the Golden Knights (6-16, 1-8 C-USA) and Golden Hurricane (8-13, 3-6 C-USA) are still jockeying for position in the standings.
UCF's offense continues to be centered around seniors Francine Houston (Bradenton, Fla./Southeast HS) and Keunta Miles (Fort Lauderdale, Fla./South Broward HS). Averaging a team best 12.2 points per game, Houston is one of the top three-point scorers in the conference as she ranks 11th in three-point shooting percentage (33.8%) and fourth in three-pointers made per game (2.14). Miles, meanwhile, averages 12 points per outing and ranks among C-USA's top 15 in rebounds, field goal percentage and offensive rebounds.
Tulsa comes to Orlando after earning a 56-52 win over Southern Miss in a game that was postponed from Thursday to Friday due to poor weather conditions in Oklahoma. Senior forward Jillian Robins recorded the 61st double-double of her career with 10 points and a team-high 12 rebounds, while senior guard Tandem Mays scored a team-high 12 points.
The Conference USA Preseason Player of the Year, Robbins is second among the league players in points with 18.8 and tops in rebounds with 12.3.
In her second year at Tulsa, Charlene Thomas-Swinson has an overall record of 34-16. She led the Golden Hurricane to both the conference regular season and tournament championships and an appearance in the NCAA Tournament.
Sunday marks only the second time the two teams have met on the hardwood. The Golden Hurricane defeated UCF, 71-43, in Tulsa, Okla. on Feb 6, 2006 despite a game-high 19 points from Francine Houston.
The Golden Knights' homestand continues on Friday, Feb. 9 against Houston at 7 p.m. For the latest news and information on the Golden Knights, tickets or apparel log on to www.ucfathletics.com - the official site for UCF athletics.
