Orlando, Fla. (www.ucfathletics.com) - After a tough loss to the No. 2 Florida Gators last Saturday, UCF will face the University of North Florida Ospreys on Friday, Feb. 2. Play will begin at 2:00 p.m. in Jacksonville.
UCF's Zoe Kent is 11-4 in singles play this season, including fall tournaments. In doubles action, Jennifer Carati and Megan Hunter have gone 5-1 overall thus far.
North Florida had an overall record of 14-7 last season, one of those seven losses came against the Golden Knights with a 5-1 defeat. UNF had an almost perfect record at home in 2006, going 8-1 at home. However the Ospreys have gone 4-0 to open their 2007 season, beating Georgia Southern, Lamar, Texas-Pan American and UTEP.
The Golden Knights have gone 3-2 against the Ospreys in the past and will face some competitive players from the UNF squad this Friday. Senior Florencia Torres played two seasons at Abraham Baldwin Agricultural College in Tifton, Ga. before transferring to UNF in 2005. She was ranked as high as No. 4 nationally in the NJCAA in 2004 and as high as No. 3 in 2005, helping her squad to a pair of regional titles and appearances in the NJCAA national tournament both years. Senior Catalina Castillo played two seasons at Tyler (Texas) Junior College, earning NCJAA Division I All-America honors in singles in 2005 and in doubles in 2004 and 2005, and helped lead her squad to the 2005 Division I NJCAA national title.
UCF's next contest after meeting UNF will kick-off their first home dual match of the season. The Golden Knights will face the Jacksonville Dolphins on Saturday, Feb. 10, at 2:00 p.m.
