Golden Knights Face Host Florida on Wednesday

Orlando, Fla. (www.ucfathletics.com) - The UCF men's tennis team will face its first ranked opponent of the year when the team travels to Gainesville to play No. 17 Florida on Wednesday. First serve at the Ring Tennis Complex is scheduled for 3 p.m.

Florida will make its season debut against UCF.

The Golden Knights (1-0) won their first match of the year against Bethune-Cookman at the UCF Tennis Complex with a 7-0 sweep on Saturday. UCF only dropped three games in doubles action. Sophomores Brock Sakey (Gulf Breeze, Fla.) and Norman Alcantara (Mexico City, Mexico) had a perfect 8-0 victory at the No. 2 doubles position against Stefan James and Edson Luiz Gomez.

In singles play, the Golden Knights had to play in only two tiebreakers and lost just one set. Sophomore Danny Colon (Jacksonville, Fla.) won 10 straight games after being down 3-2 to earn his first victory at UCF.

UCF and Florida met a year ago in Gainesville and the Gators claimed a 7-0 win. Despite the loss, the Golden Knights received a strong performances from then-freshmen Tarek Ben Soltane (Tunis, Tunisia) and Sakey.

The Gators return four letterwinners and welcome four newcomers to a team that finished 17-8 in 2006. Two Gators are ranked nationally. Greg Ouellette is ranked 16th and Nestor Briceno is No. 60

Florida leads the all-time series against UCF, 10-0.
