ORLANDO, Fla. (www.ucfathletics.com) - The UCF women's basketball team continues its road trip when the Golden Knights travel to New Orleans where they play Tulane on Sunday, Jan. 28 at 3 p.m. (et).
UCF (6-14, 1-6) looks to rebound from a 69-56 loss at UTEP on Friday night, while senior guard Celeste Hudson (Altamonte Springs, Fla./Lyman HS) continues the quest for her 1,000th career point. She and junior guard Amber Long (Irmo, S.C./Dutch Fork HS) each scored a team-high nine points in the loss to the Miners, giving Hudson 999 points during her four years with the Black & Gold.
Senior guard Francine Houston (Bradenton, Fla./Southeast HS) remains the team's leading scorer with 12.7 points per game, while senior forward Keunta Miles (Fort Lauderdale, Fla./South Broward HS) sit just behind her with 12.3 points. Miles is also UCF's top rebounder as she averages 6.8 boards per contest.
Riding a four-game winning streak, Tulane has the second best overall record in the league at 16-4 and shares the top spot in the C-USA standing with four other teams that own identical 5-2 marks against conference rivals. The Green Wave's most recent outing was a 66-50 victory over Southern Miss on Friday night. Three TU players finished the game with double figures in scoring, including sophomore guard Ashley Langford with a team-high 13.
Senior guard Jami Montagnino leads the Green Wave and is listed among the conference's top five scorers, averaging 16.7 points per game, while junior forward Jennifer Sands has pulled down a team-high five rebounds per outing.
In the five previous meetings between UCF and Tulane, the Golden Knight emerged with a 3-2 advantage in the series. Last season, UCF took a 60-52 victory at home but fell to the Green Wave, 69-52, in the first round of the 2006 Conference USA Championship.
The Golden Knights are back on the road on Thursday, Feb. 1 at SMU for an 8 p.m. tip-off then return home to play host to Tulsa on Sunday, Feb. 4 at 1 p.m.
