ORLANDO, Fla. (www.ucfathletics.com) - For the second-consecutive year, the UCF men's tennis team will open its season against Bethune-Cookman. The match will take place at the UCF Tennis Complex at noon on Saturday.
The Golden Knights return five letterwinners from last season's squad that finished with an 11-10 mark. Head coach Bobby Cashman welcomes two new faces to the team in freshman Johan Beigart (Vaxjo, Sweden) and sophomore Danny Colon (Jacksonville, Fla.) and returns senior Ener Gursoy (Adana, Turkey) who was inactive last season.
Brock Sakey (Gulf Breeze, Fla.) won UCF's first Conference USA individual award after being named C-USA Freshman of the Year last Spring. Sakey was 16-5 in singles play, including 3-0 in C-USA action. He was also tied for the most wins in doubles play with a 9-8 record.
UCF is perfect in the all-time series against the Wildcats, 7-0. The two teams last met on Jan. 21, 2006 in Daytona Beach with the Golden Knights breezing to a 6-1 win. The Golden Knights received wins from current players Sinan Sudas (Adana, Turkey), Sakey and Jimmy Roesch (Melbourne, Fla.) in singles action. UCF was also victorious in all of its doubles matches.
