LAKE BUENA VISTA, Fla. (www.ucfathletics.com) - The UCF cheerleading squad captured its second national title as the College Cheerleading and Dance Team Nationals concluded on Sunday at Disney's Wide World of Sports®.

It was the team's second national championship as the Golden Knights took home the trophy in 2003.

"This was a great moment for the five seniors on this team," said head coach Linda Gooch. "They came in the fall after we won our first championship and here they are four years later. They worked very hard to achieve this goal. I am very happy for them."

Ranked fifth in the south region entering this year's competition, UCF earned a bye through to the finals, where the team performed 14th in the 15-team field. The Golden Knights finished ahead of Alabama in second place and two-time defending champion Kentucky in third place.

"There were a lot of great performances out here," said Gooch. "I thought that Alabama and Memphis were both solid. What set our performance apart was the confidence level with which our athletes executed the routine. I couldn't be prouder."

Earlier in the afternoon, the KnightMoves dance team took seventh in the IA Dance Division and 12th in the IA Hip Hop Division.

During Friday night's partner stunt competition at Disney-MGM Studios, senior Chris Stadler (Orlando, Fla.) and freshman Lauren Whitt (Orlando, Fla.) took fifth followed senior Randy Brown (Tampa, Fla.) and freshman Kimmy Barker (St. Petersburg, Fla.) in sixth.
