Fort Lauderdale's Miles Helps UCF Overpower Memphis

ORLANDO, Fla. (www.ucfathletics.com) - Senior forward Keunta Miles (Fort Lauderdale, Fla./South Broward HS) scored a team-high 22 points and grabbed a game-high 10 rebounds to lead the UCF women's basketball team to a 77-62 Conference USA win over Memphis at UCF Arena on Sunday afternoon.

The victory marked the best offensive output by the Golden Knights (6-12, 1-4 C-USA) this year as they recorded a season-high in both points and field-goal percentage (47.4%). Five players finished with double figures in scoring.

It was the fourth career double-double for Miles, who hit eight of 11 chances from the floor. Senior guard Francine Houston (Bradenton, Fla./Southeast HS) added 20 points, while sophomore guard Amber Long (Irmo, S.C./Dutch Fork HS) contributed 11. Sophomore Jackie Akers (Naples, Fla./North Fort Myers HS) and senior guard Celeste Hudson (Altamonte Springs, Fla./Lyman HS) each scored 10.

The Golden Knights started the afternoon on a 7-2 streak, capped off by Houston's three-pointer at 18:12. Memphis (3-16, 0-5 C-USA) tied the game at 16 with 11:31 remaining before allowing UCF to score nine unanswered points. The offensive spark helped UCF take a 44-29 lead into intermission.

Both teams shot well from the floor in the opening period. UCF hit 45.4%, while Memphis sank 52.4%. The Golden Knights also knocked down 50% of their three-point attempts.

UCF continued to increase the gap between the two squads in the second half, going up by as much as 24 on a jumper by Long at 13:09.

The Tigers were led by junior forward Aroha Jennings' game-high 24 points and sophomore Ashley Thornton's nine rebounds.
