Orlando, Fla. (www.ucfathletics.com) - With impending coaching changes, UCF Head Coach George O'Leary announced the addition of David Kelly to the Golden Knight football coaching staff on Wednesday. Kelly, who served the past year as UCF's Director of High School Relations, will coach the Golden Knight wide receivers.
Kelly has more than 28 years of experience in coaching football at the prep and collegiate levels. His most recent coaching position was at Duke University where he served as the associate head coach and mentored the Blue Devil wide receivers for the 2004 and 2005 seasons.
"I am very happy to have David join our on-field coaching staff," O'Leary said. "He brings with him a lot of experience from some great universities. He is going help our young receivers reach their potential."
This will mark the second time Kelly has served on one of O'Leary's staffs as the two worked together at Georgia Tech in 2000 and 2001 when the Yellow Jackets went to back-to-back bowl games.
"I am extremely excited to take a full-time position on the coaching staff," Kelly said. "It's exciting to once again join Coach O'Leary on the field and assist him in any small way that I can to help this program realize its vast potential."
Kelly has also served as the associate head coach and offensive coordinator at Stanford as well as holding assistant coaching positions at LSU and Georgia.
Prior to his full-time coaching positions in college, Kelly was a successful head coach at the high school ranks where he lead his Dunwoody High team to the Georgia Class AAAA State Championship in 1993 and the No. 3 national ranking by USA Today.
Kelly has an undergraduate and a master's degree from Furman University.
