ORLANDO, Fla. (www.ucfathletics.com) - The UCF women's basketball team seeks to continue its winning streak as the Golden Knights open up their sophomore season in Conference USA with a visit to Southern Miss on Sunday, Dec. 31 at 3 p.m.
The Golden Knights (5-8) are looking for their fifth straight win after earning victories over Bethune-Cookman, North Florida, Florida A&M and Iona College. In their most recent win - a 59-47 decision over the visiting Gaels, senior forward Keunta Miles (Fort Lauderdale, Fla./South Broward HS) posted her third career double-double with 15 points and 12 rebounds. Meanwhile, senior guard Francine Houston (Bradenton, Fla./Southeast HS) added 14 points, marking the seventh time this season she recorded double figures on the scoreboard.
Southern Miss owns a record of 6-7 entering Sunday's match-up. After beating Centenary, 73-61, on Dec. 27, the Golden Eagles beat the Houston Jaguars, 71-63, in an exhibition contest the following day. Sophomore Amber Eugene led the squad with 21 points against Centenary and is averaging a team-high 17.8 points and 6.7 rebounds per game.
The Golden Knights and Golden Eagles have met seven times previously with Southern Miss holding a 7-0 advantage in the series.
UCF remains on the road next weekend at Marshall and East Carolina before playing host to UAB on Friday, Jan. 12 at 7 p.m.
