TAMPA, Fla. (www.ucfathletics.com) - The 2007-08 UCF women's basketball recruiting class was recently ranked No. 41 in the nation by the Collegiate Girls Basketball Report.
"To receive such a high ranking is an honor and a testament to the hard work that our staff has accomplished on the recruiting trail," said UCF head coach Gail Striegler, who is in her eighth season. "We are excited to have such a talented group of individuals join our team. We are looking forward to watching them develop and contribute to UCF's future success."
The Golden Knights incoming class features four freshmen, including guards Angelica Mealing (Decatur, Ga./Avondale HS), Marshay White (Rochester, N.Y./School of the Arts) and Shunice Hardy (Lithonia, Ga./Stephenson HS), forward Stacy Griffith (Fredericksburg, Va./Riverbend HS) and centers Emma Cannon (Rochester, N.Y./School of the Arts). Also joining the team is center and junior college transfer Wanyna Brown (Albany, Ga./Seward County CC).
Mealing, Cannon and Hardy were among the top 200 ranked players in the country. Mealing is listed No. 185 overall and No. 45 at point guard, while Cannon is No. 117 overall and No. 26 among centers. Hardy is ranked among the top 100 nationally.
"UCF certainly helped themselves with interior size, perimeter quickness and athleticism," said Dan Olson, director of the Collegiate Girls Basketball Report. "The backcourt talent combined with the signing of two solid inside players provides UCF with promising impact performers. The UCF staff has certainly excelled by signing post players in particular, an increasingly difficult task in which every program seems to have a need."
Tickets for home contests are available by calling (407) UCF-1000. For the latest news and information on the Golden Knights, tickets or apparel log on to www.ucfathletics.com - the official site for UCF athletics.
