ORLANDO, Fla. (www.ucfathletics.com) - The 2006 UCF Holiday Classic continues at UCF Arena on Tuesday, Dec. 19 as Georgia State faces North Florida at 5 p.m. followed by UCF taking on Florida A&M at approximately 7 p.m.
When the Golden Knights (3-8) take the floor against FAMU (5-5), they will be looking for their third consecutive victory. On Monday night, senior forward Keunta Miles (Fort Lauderdale, Fla./South Broward HS) recorded 16 points and 11 rebounds to lead UCF to a 55-44 win over North Florida (2-7). It was the second double-double of Miles' career as she posted her first at Southeastern Louisiana on Nov. 13.
The Rattlerettes hold a 16-5 lead in the series history, but UCF has won the last two meetings - including a 62-54 victory during the 2005 UCF Golden Knights Classic. Current senior guard Francine Houston (Bradenton, Fla./Southeast HS) had a team-high 16 points in that contest.
Georgia State (5-4) is also seeking its third consecutive victory after edging FAMU, 66-63, in Monday's tournament opener. Two Panthers finished the night with double-doubles. Sophomore center Marcquitta Head scored 14 points and grabbed 16 rebounds, while senior guard Kelcey Roegiers-Jensen contributed 14 points and 12 assists, missing a triple-double by one rebound.
Despite the loss for Florida A&M, freshman guard Marke Freeman poured in a game-high 21 points and senior center Ifeoma Onuaku also posted a double-double with 12 points and 12 boards.
The coaches will determine an all-tournament team and MVP at the conclusion of the UCF game.
