Orlando, Fla. (www.ucfathletics.com) - The UCF football team posted its second-highest Fall grade point average since its move to Division I-A football this past semester, continuing its strong efforts in the classroom under the direction of third-year head coach George O'Leary. In all, 41 Golden Knights had a GPA of 3.00 or higher and nine athletes graduated as the team finished with a 2.741 term GPA.
"I am happy and proud of the team for their efforts in the classroom," O'Leary said. "I am pleased with the program and the progress that each individual has made."
The overall GPA of the team stands at 2.732 following the fall term and the 64 returning players are carrying a cumulative GPA of 2.810.
Junior long snapper Michael Buscemi graduated early and will be one of four players from the 2006 team that will be pursuing a master's degree at UCF. Buscemi, a second-team All-C-USA pick by the league's head coaches this past season, along with seniors Cedric Gagne-Marcoux, Kareem Reid and Dan Veenstra will continue their education this Spring.
"These players have so much going on during the football season and to see them do so well in the classroom is a testament to their hard work," Assistant Director of Academic Services for Student-Athletes Kristy Belden said. "I know our staff is excited to see the continued success."
