Orlando, Fla. (www.ucfathletics.com) - UCF Director of Athletics Keith Tribble announced the opponents for the Golden Knights' 2007 football schedule on Monday. The schedule features eight Conference USA match-ups and a four game non-conference slate that includes teams from the Atlantic Coast, Big East, Big XII and Sun Belt conferences. Dates and times are still to be determined.
For the first time as a Division I-A member, UCF will play at least six home games in back-to-back seasons. Big XII-power Texas opens that portion of the schedule and will be the first UCF opponent at the on-campus Bright House Networks Stadium on Sept. 15, 2007.
"As normal, I think we have a great non-conference schedule and having six home games is really important too," Head Coach George O'Leary said. "We will have some competitive games before we get into the Conference USA schedule and that is key for us to have."
The league schedule features the five other C-USA East Division teams. The Knights will play at East Carolina, Southern Miss and UAB, while hosting Marshall and Memphis from that side of the division.
The three West Division opponents are new for 2007 after Houston, Rice and Tulane rotated off of the schedule. The Golden Knights add SMU, Tulsa and UTEP and will host two of those teams in Orlando.
Along with Texas, the non-conference portion of UCF's schedule includes North Carolina State, USF, and Louisiana-Lafayette. The Wolfpack will be the first ACC opponent for the Golden Knights since their 2001 season-opener at Clemson. The game in Raleigh, N.C., will also be the first meeting between the two schools.
The Golden Knights and Bulls will play for the third-consecutive year. The 2007 tilt will take place in Tampa at Raymond James Stadium. Louisiana-Lafayette is on the schedule for the second time in three seasons and will be one of the two non-conference home games on the schedule.
