UCF Volleyball Signs Four to National Letters of Intent

Nov. 8, 2006

ORLANDO, Fla. (www.ucfathletics.com) - UCF volleyball head coach Meg Colado announced on Wednesday that her program has received National Letters of Intent (NLI) from four prep standouts. Kerry Brown (Elburn, Ill.), Erin Callahan (Alpharetta, Ga.), Kristen Petrasic (Carrollton, Texas) and Kelly Weaver (Port Orange, Fla.) will all join the Golden Knights in the fall of 2007.

Brown is a 6-foot-2 middle blocker who attends St. Charles North High School where she played for coach Lindsay Trudell. In 2006, Brown led the North Stars to a 31-9 record and a Class AA sectional championship. She plays for the Sports Performance club team.

"Kerry is a big middle who is a solid competitor," said Colado. "What impresses me the most about Kerry is her incredible work ethic."

A 5-foot-11 middle blocker, Callahan starred at Milton High School for coach Debbie Schaefer. In 2005, she helped guide her team to the Georgia Class AAAAA championship match. Callahan plays at the club level for A-5.

"Erin has a fiery personality," said Colado. "She is an incredible leaper. We are excited to have her on board because she is a natural competitor."

Petrasic is a 5-foot-9 outside hitter who played at Creekview High School for Angel Mauterer. Following the 2005 season, she was named the District 10-5A Hitter of the Year and was also selected to the district first team. Petrasic also plays for Club Victory, based in Dallas. A two-sport star, she earned a spot on the Dallas Morning News all-district basketball team as a junior.

"Kristen has great ball-control. She is a player with incredible endurance and drive," said Colado.

A local product, Weaver attends Spruce Creek High School where she played for coach Cara Swayze. This fall, the 6-foot-2 outside hitter/right side helped Spruce Creek to a 21-9 record and a spot in the Class 6A, Region I semifinals. Weaver set a school single-season record with 90 blocks. On the club level, she plays for The Volleyball Academy of Winter Springs.

"Kelly will be one of the tallest right side hitters in this program's history," said Colado. "At 6-foot-2, she is very agile and athletic."

The four players will all be eligible this fall when the Golden Knights begin their third season in Conference USA.

"The members of this signing class are all competitive and driven," said Colado. "They all have a winning mentality. Each player comes from wonderful families and our staff is very excited about having them on board."
