ORLANDO, Fla. (www.ucfathletics.com) - UCF women's soccer standouts Roberta Pelarigo (Sao Paulo, Brazil) and Jennifer Manis (Pensacola, Fla./Washington HS) earned spots on the National Soccer Coaches Association of America (NSCAA)/adidas® All-Southeast Region Teams, the organization announced on Thursday.
Making her second appearance on the NSCAA All-Region Teams, Pelarigo grabbed second-team honors. After being tapped for preseason all-conference honors, the senior forward lived up to expectations, capturing All-Conference USA first team recognition for the second consecutive year. She lead the Golden Knights' offense with nine goals - including four game-winners - and five assists for 23 points and topped all conference players after collecting 17 points against league opponents. After scoring three goals in the weekend series at Rice and Houston, Pelarigo was named NSCAA National Player of the Week.
Pelarigo was an NSCAA All-Southeast Region third-team selection in 2005.
A junior goalkeeper, Manis received All-Southeast Region third-team honors after starting all 19 for the Golden Knights. She made 72 saves and posted a 1.07 overall goals-against-average with four shutouts. A two-time C-USA Defensive Player of the Week, Manis was selected to the All-C-USA second team. She also earned a spot on the Soccer America National Team of the Week after allowing only one goal in the weekend series at Rice and Houston.
"Roberta and Jennifer are both very deserving of being selected for the NSCAA All-Region team," said UCF head coach Amanda Cromwell. "Roberta was great up front, as a goal scorer and playmaker. She is so dangerous around the goal and has proven that is the variety of goals she has scored the last two years. Jenny Manis had many outstanding performances in her first full season as our starting goalkeeper. She definitely had a breakout year as many opposing teams made comments on her ability to make the big save. We will miss Berta as our leading goal scorer but we are excited to have Manis back in the goal this spring and for her senior season."
The Golden Knights (11-6-2, 7-1-1 C-USA) secured the No. 2 seed in the 2006 Conference USA Championship, where they lost to eventual tournament champion UAB in the quarterfinals.
