ORLANDO, Fla. (www.ucfathletics.com) - The UCF men's cross country team signed Tampa, Fla. native Baker Burchfield to a National Letter of Intent (NLI), Golden Knights' head coach Marcia Mansur-Wentworth announced on Monday.
Burchfield captured first place to help his Wharton High School team earn the Central Hillsborough Invitational title earlier this fall. More recently, he took third place at the regional meet and fourth at the state championships. In 2005, he finished seventh at the state meet.
"Baker is an excellent competitor who will easily adapt to the college distances," said Mansur-Wentworth. "I feel he will be an immediate impact on team that has been strong over the past two years."
Ranked as high as ninth in the U.S. Track and Field and Cross Country Coaches Association South Region this season, the Golden Knights finished fourth in the Conference USA Cross Country Championship in November.
