HOUSTON (www.ucfathletics.com) - The UCF volleyball team concluded its season on Thursday afternoon, falling 3-1 (30-24, 30-24, 27-30, 30-17) to UAB in opening round action at the Conference USA Championship at the Hofheinz Pavilion. Junior outside hitter Schanell Neiderworder posted a double-double with 15 kills and 10 digs for the 12th-seeded Golden Knights.
UAB, seeded fifth at the event, improves to 24-9 on the year. The Golden Knights end the season at 5-24.
The Golden Knights hit .225 for the match, but just .000 in game four. The Blazers hit .344 in the final game and .287 overall.
In the loss, sophomore middle blocker Stephanie Serna (San Antonio, Texas/O'Connor HS) totaled 14 kills and six block assists. Senior middle blocker Jana Mitchell (Champlin, Minn./Osseo HS) added nine kills and six block assists.
Senior setter Leah Alexander (Georgetown, Texas/Leander HS) paced the squad with 26 assists and freshman libero Erin Campbell (Kansas City, Mo./North Kansas City HS) had 20 digs.
Fernanda Domingos led the Blazers with 21 kills. Nevena Stefanov dished out a match-high 59 assists.
