UCF Women's Golf Signs Tequesta Native Alger for 2007-08

Nov. 16, 2006

Orlando, Fla. (www.ucfathletics.com) - With hopes of taking the UCF women's golf team back to the NCAA Regionals, second-year head coach Emilee Klein continued that eventful journey this week by signing Elizabeth Alger (Tequesta, Fla./Batt Private School) to a National Letter of Intent. Alger joined Katie Detlefsen (Eagan, Minn./Minnehaha Academy), who signed with the Golden Knights last week, as Klein's second recruiting class at UCF.

"I think Liz is a great player and will be a great asset to this team," said Klein. "She's a good ball striker and a true leader when it comes to practicing, working on her game and wanting to get better. Liz has really been working hard on her game (since suffering some injuries in 2005) and has a lot of motivation to prove to everybody how good she is. I think she will keep working hard until she gets to where she needs to be.

"I am just excited because of the fact these two golfers are taking the leap towards this program and are realizing we are moving towards becoming a top program. To have two recruits like them this year is pretty phenomenal, especially with it being my second recruiting season."

Alger participated in seven American Junior Golf Association events last summer, earning two top-five finishes to currently rank 61st in the nation in the Polo Golf Rankings. Although she was out most of 2005 due to injuries, Alger placed 11th at the 2004 Fidelity Investments Junior Classic, and 12th at the 2004 PING Junior at Mirasol. She won her first Future Collegians World Tour title as a sophomore, taking home the Blue Devil Jr. Golf Classic by 12 strokes, and earned FCWT Third-Team All-American honors in the 13-18 age group in 2005-06.
