ORLANDO, Fla. (www.ucfathletics.com) - UCF head women's basketball coach Gail Striegler announced the signing of Rochester, N.Y. natives Emma Cannon and Marshay White to National Letters of Intent on Tuesday.
Both Cannon and White are products of the School of the Arts, where the pair helped their high school team achieve a record of 24-1 and advance to the state semifinals. The duo also played for coach Tim Jackson's Empire Dragons AAU squad.
Cannon, a 6-2 power forward, averaged 28 points, 12 rebounds and three blocks as a junior. An all-state honoree, she is ranked 21st at her position by the Collegiate Girls Basketball Report.
"Emma is an athletic post who can score on the block. She really has the knack for offensive rebounding and put-backs," said Striegler.
A 5-8 combo guard, White put up 20 points and recorded eight assists and five steals per game last season as she also earned all-state recognition. She is ranked among the top 250 players in the nation by the Collegiate Girls Basketball Report.
"Marshay is a three-point specialist, but she can play at the one, two or three position" said Striegler. "Because of her versatility, we expect her to get a lot of minutes."
The UCF women's basketball team (0-2) plays its home opener against Fairleigh Dickinson on Friday, Nov. 17 at 7 p.m. in the UCF Arena. Tickets for home contests are available by calling (407) UCF-1000.
