A year ago, ninth-seeded UCF went 1-1 at the event. The Golden Knights defeated No. 8 Memphis, 3-1, to open the tournament. In the quarterfinals, UCF nearly pulled off one of the greatest upsets in C-USA Championship history, falling 3-2 against top-seeded Marshall. The Golden Knights won the first two games before the Thundering Herd rebounded to spoil the upset bid.
