ORLANDO, Fla. (www.ucfathletics.com) - Playing in its regular-season finale, the UCF volleyball team dropped a 3-0 (30-16, 30-27, 30-23) Conference USA match to UAB on Sunday afternoon at the UCF Arena. Junior outside hitter Schanell Neiderworder (Aurora, Colo./Grandview HS) led the Golden Knights with 12 kills.
The Blazers improved to 23-9 overall and 10-6 in league play, while UCF dropped to 5-23 and 1-15.
UCF will return to action on Friday, Nov. 17 in the first round of the C-USA Championship in Houston, Texas. The squad's opponent will be determined later this afternoon.
UAB recorded 15 service aces, with Aleksandra Vujovic registering seven. The Blazers hit .289 as a team, compared to .194 for the hosts.
Sophomore middle blocker Stephanie Serna (San Antonio, Texas/O'Connor HS) tallied 10 kills for the Golden Knights and junior outside hitter Lorin Lukas (Winter Springs, Fla./Winter Springs HS) added nine kills and three service aces.
Freshman setter Andrea Youngblood (Castle Rock, Colo./Douglas County HS) dished out 19 assists for UCF and senior setter Leah Alexander (Georgetown, Texas/Leander HS) chipped in with 14 assists.
Ivana Bozic had a match-high 17 kills in the victory. Nevena Stefanova totaled 27 assists and Brianna Galvin had 21 digs.
Prior to the match, UCF honored its four seniors - Alexander, Maina Heming (Sao Leopoldo, Brazil), Jana Mitchell (Champlin, Minn./Osseo) and Vesna Ukic (Split, Croatia) - who were all playing at home for the final time.
