UCF Drops C-USA Contest to Memphis

ORLANDO, Fla. (www.ucfathletics.com) - Despite three Golden Knights finishing with double-digits in kills, the UCF volleyball team fell 3-0 (30-21, 30-25, 32-30) to Memphis in Conference USA action on Friday evening at the UCF Arena. Sophomore middle blocker Stephanie Serna (San Antonio, Texas/O'Connor HS) paced the Golden Knights with 12 kills.

Memphis (24-7, 10-5 C-USA) hit .339 for the match, compared to .229 for the Golden Knights, who fall to 5-22 and 1-14.

Junior outside hitter Schanell Neiderworder (Aurora, Colo./Grandview HS) totaled 11 kills in the loss and sophomore middle blocker Jenny Heppert (Lawrence, Kan./Free State HS) added 10 kills.

UCF threatened to win game three and tied the game at 30 on a kill by senior outside hitter Maina Heming (Sao Leopoldo, Brazil). The Tigers responded with two quick points, one coming on a Shelby Burton block, followed by a kill from Ashley Liford to clinch the win.

Freshman setter Andrea Youngblood (Castle Rock, Colo./Douglas County HS) had 23 assists for the hosts and senior setter Leah Alexander (Georgetown, Texas/Leander HS) dished out 18 assists. UCF freshman libero Erin Campbell (Kansas City, Mo./North Kansas City) recorded a match-high 15 digs.

Sarah Bury led Memphis with 17 kills. Ashley Liford chipped in with 12 kills and Laura Cote tallied 37 assists.

UCF will conclude the regular season at home on Sunday, Nov. 12 versus UAB. The match is slated to start at 1 p.m. Prior to the event, the Golden Knights will honor their four seniors - Alexander, Heming, Jana Mitchell (Champlin, Minn.) and Vesna Ukic (Split, Croatia).
