Chattanooga, Tenn. (www.ucfathletics.com) - The UCF rowing team took to the water for the second time this season Saturday morning, and the Golden Knights brought home favorable results at the Head of the Hooch in Chattanooga, Tenn. In the Women's Championships Eight race, the Varsity "A" boat took third in a field of 27 teams, as the regatta was the first chance for the top three UCF boats to go up against collegiate competition this fall.
With five boats entered in three events for the Head of the Hooch, one of the main focuses for the Golden Knights was the Women's Championship Eight race. While UCF had three boats entered, the Varsity "A" squad placed third behind both of the University of Tennessee entries with a time of 15.54.8, 19.1 seconds behind the winning Tennessee Varsity "B" boat. The UCF Varsity "B" entry finished 10th with a time of 16:14.9, and the UCF "C" boat finished tied for 19th with the Clemson University "C" squad at a time of 16:39, 1:03.3 behind the leaders.
The first race of the day for UCF was the Women's Lightweight Eight regatta which started at 8:30 a.m. The UCF "A" boat took the victory with a time of 16:42.9, beating out the Atlanta Rowing Club who trailed the Golden Knights by 56.1 seconds. UCF and the Atlanta Rowing Club were the only two boats of the five-boat field that finished under 17 minutes.
The Women's Freshmen/Novice Eight race was next for the Golden Knights. After showing promise at last weekend's Hatter Classic, the UCF Novice "A" boat took home a sixth place finish in the 22 boat race with a time of 17:24.4, 47 seconds behind the winning Texas Novice "B" squad.
The UCF Golden Knights travel next weekend to Charlottesville, Va., for the Rivanna Romp, the final regatta of the fall season. For the latest news and information on the Golden Knights, tickets or apparel log on to www.ucfathletics.com - the official site for UCF athletics.
