Led by freshman Nuno Henriques (Funchal, Portugal) and his three-over 145, the UCF men's golf team stands at fourth place of the Wolf Run Intercollegiate Saturday. The Golden Knights posted a team score of 594 (+26), 13 shots behind Kentucky. The event is being hosted by Indiana University at the par-71 Wolf Run Golf Club.
Through the morning round, UCF was in a three-way for sixth with Xavier and Georgia Southern with a 15-over 299. The Golden Knights were nine strokes behind first-round leader Louisville and three shots out of a third-place tie between Indiana and Arkansas. Henriques and sophomore Greg Forest (Palm City, Fla./Martin County) were tied for ninth with an opening-round score of 73 (+2).
Henriques followed that with a one-over round of 72 in the evening round to move up into a tie for eighth. He will enter the final round of play six shots behind Louisville's Derek Fathauer, who tied the course record in the first round with a five-under 66. Fathauer then saw that record broken in round two by Chris Smith of Georgia Southern who completed his 18 holes with a six-under 65.
Sophomore Kyle Davis (Kennett Square, Pa./Unionville) posted the Golden Knights' best round, carding an even-par 71 in the second round to travel up the leaderboard into a tie for 13th. Forest and sophomore Preston Brown (Ponte Vedra Beach, Fla./Nease) sit in a tie for 25th as each fired a 151 (+6) through the first two sessions. Junior Giwon Suh (Orlando, Fla./Olympia) rounded out the UCF scoring with a 157 (+12) to place in a tie for 45th.
Meanwhile, freshman Mike Stern (Miami, Fla./Killian) competed as an individual and ranked tied for 30th thanks to a 153 (+8).
