UCF Rowing Embarks on its Fall Schedule with a Short Trip to Stetson Saturday

Oct. 27, 2006

Orlando, Fla. (www.ucfathletics.com) - Even though some sports such as golf and tennis are winding down their fall schedules, the UCF rowing team gets its fall season underway Saturday at the Hatter Classic hosted by Stetson University. The Golden Knights will look to showcase their incoming novice squad, which will be making its first appearance in NCAA competition.

"The Novice team is very excited to race, and I am looking forward to this measure of their early progress," said assistant coach Corrie McGrath. "The Hatter Classic is a great first regatta for the novices, and a stepping stone towards a highly competitive spring season."

This weekend's regatta at Ed Stone Park is a head race format where each team starts moments after the other and at the finish line, times will be recorded to determine a victor. UCF will first send off its fourth varsity eight boat at 9 a.m., and at approximately 10:15 a.m., five novice eight boats enter the water. It also may include a boat in the novice four competition at 11:45 a.m.

Host Stetson, Nova Southeastern and Florida Tech all will be competing against UCF Saturday, while the event includes races from other Central Florida programs' men's teams as well.
