Windermere, Fla. (www.ucfathletics.com) - The University of Texas men's golf team pulled away from the 18-team field in the final round of the Isleworth-UCF Collegiate Invitational on Tuesday to earn its first team title of the fall season. The Longhorns opened the final round with just a one-shot lead on fellow Big XII member Oklahoma State at the Isleworth Golf & Country Club, but by the end of the day the Texas lead turned into a 12-stroke victory over runner-up Florida.

Texas finished with a 297 (+9) to give the team a three-round total of 876 (+12). The Gators jumped a spot in the team standings from day two following a 302 (+14) to place second. Texas A&M posted the low round of the day with a 291 (+3) to vault into third after starting the day in 16th. Oklahoma State wound up fourth in the team standings after registering a 312 (+24).

The Georgia Bulldogs rounded out the top five and were led by sophomore Brian Harman, who captured medalist honors with a three-day total of 216 (E). Harman's third-round score of 75 (+3) was his only round over par at the tournament after posting scores of 70 (-2) and 71 (-1) in the first and second rounds, respectively.

Harman held off SEC rival Billy Horschel of Florida and Wake Forest's Dustin Groves as that duo finished tied for runner-up with respective scores of 217 (+1). Horschel, who fired a final round of one-under, 71, was one of just four players to break par on the last day and almost holed out a chip on the 18th green to force a playoff. Texas A&M junior Robert Gates fired the lowest third-round score with a 68 (-4) to finish in a tie for 10th.

Texas unseated the Bulldogs who had won the ICI in its first two years of existence. The unranked Longhorns surprised a field that featured 12 ranked teams. Their previous top finish of the season was a third-place showing at the Jerry Pate Invitational Oct. 9-10.

Senior Matt Bortis, who led the field with 13 birdies in the tournament, was the top Longhorn finisher as he placed in a tie for fourth following a final round 71 - his best effort of the tournament. Georgia Tech's Roberto Castro joined him with a final score of 218 (+2) following a 74 on Tuesday.

Tournament host UCF turned in the sixth best team score of the day with a 306 (+18) as the Golden Knights were led by Mike Stern and Preston Brown, who both carded 74's (+2). Sophomore Kyle Davis was the top individual finisher for UCF, tying for 53rd with a 230 (+14). The team finished 18th.

UCF concluded its fall season at the ICI and will open spring tournament play at the Gator Invitational on Feb. 10-11.
