Orlando, Fla. (www.ucfathletics.com) - The month of October has been a pleasant one for the UCF men's golf team. As it currently is hosting the third-annual Isleworth-UCF Collegiate Invitational Oct. 22-24, sophomore Kyle Davis (Kennett Square, Pa.) was recently selected as the Philadelphia Golfer of the Year for his performance on the links during the summer. At the age of 20, he became the youngest golfer to win the award.
Davis began his off-season with a victory at the Philadelphia Amateur, and followed that up with a third-place finish at the Philadelphia Open. In August, he earned second at the Patterson Cup. To complete the summer, Davis advanced to the third round of match play at the U.S. Amateur.
The Golden Knight amassed 1,043 points for his efforts, which was more than two times that of second place Stephen Arnold. Davis' point total was the second-highest in the Golf Association of Philadelphia's history.
"Being the GAP Player of the Year was something that I did not set as a goal at the start of the summer, however, after winning the Amateur my mindset changed drastically," Davis said in a statement from the GAP. "That week at Torresdale-Frankford is one I will never forget no matter what happens in the future of my career."
