Kent Survives to Play on the Final Day of the ITA Southern Regionals

Oct. 21, 2006

Tuscaloosa, Ala. (www.ucfathletics.com) - Using some good fortune in the second round and a solid showing in the quarterfinals, freshman Zoe Kent (Valrico, Fla.) remained alive Saturday at the ITA Southern Regionals, hosted by the University of Alabama. She moved on to the semifinals of the B singles consolation draw, where she will face Tatiana Feit of Mississippi State Sunday at 9 a.m.

Kent's second round opponent, Jacksonville's Lena Willi, had to depart the tournament due to an injury. That gave Kent the opportunity to match-up with Heather Bybee of Auburn in the quarters. The UCF freshman did not need much time to reach the final day of competition, defeating the Tiger, 6-3, 6-2.

Kent's singles record moved to 7-2 on the season, as she stands at 3-1 in this weekend's event.

One UCF doubles tandem had the chance to reach Sunday as well, as senior Megan Hunter (Poquoson, Va.) and junior Jennifer Carati (Puerto Ordaz, Venezuela) had a quarterfinal match Saturday in the B doubles bracket. But they could not get past Alabama's Shelley Godwin and Bianca Svensson and into the semifinals, falling 8-4.
